I am currently in the final year studying for my BA (Hons) Art and Design Practice Degree. This work is part of a multidisciplinary exploration of the unloved and overlooked in nature, "A Fly Died in My Eye" is a response to my interaction with flies. Through my artwork I attempt to shine a light onto and make beautiful, the flies which live and die around us, often unseen and disregarded.
It is also an expression of my admiration for the resilience and strength of creatures and plants such as brambles, with their deep rooted and powerful grasp on life, through the medium of drawing and ink work. In a way it is a metaphor for people and their situations on earth.
I have embedded my personal reflections in the images, and they tell a story of my reaction to the subject matter and the materials, over the course of this year. Ink work extends from drawing into printmaking, cyanotypes and analogue photography. In ceramics I have tried to capture the properties of ink drawing onto clay surfaces.
