Rip it up for collage.
Overcoming the fear of collage.

One member of our group has a hatred of collage. I myself have a love/hate relationship with the tearing and sticking process. However, used sparingly, I believe it can have a place in our art. Often my early morning warm-ups will include a bit of chopping and pasting - a good way to get thinking about colour and values while enjoying the combination of unexpected patterns and marks. Add paint, charcoal, pastel and see what happens. Interesting ideas and compositions emerge which can inspire a painting. And if you print your own papers, well that just opens up a whole new world. So grab your scissors and have a go.
